The K530i is an solid mid-range all-rounder from Sony Ericsson that, while lacking the multimedia talents of the Walkman or Cyber-shot ranges, delivers a good range of features and 3G connectivity.
The Rokr E8 is a phone with very clear priorities. Geared thoroughly towards music it makes serious compromises on screen size and camera quality. Motorola’s innovative ‘Modeshift’ control panel also seems to sacrifice usability in favour of novelty.
Though its looks mirror Motorola stablemate the PEBL, the U9 offers some additional design features that have a real impact on usability. None of its features, however, live up to the promise of their packaging.
In the E250 Samsung combines the slick aesthetic of its higher-end phones with an unsophisticated range of features to offer a solid entry-level slider. Though it won’t get a second look from those after a powerful multimedia device, the E250 gives good basics.
